Winter weather: December to February
Winter is cold, with average overnight lows below freezing in December, January and February. Snow and ice are possible, but a white landscape is never guaranteed for specific dates.
Choose a properly heated room, pack insulated and waterproof footwear and keep transport plans flexible. Sunrise activities feel colder than the afternoon averages suggest.
Spring weather: March to May
March is still cool and changeable. April brings much milder afternoons, while May averages above 20°C during the day. Spring also has more rainy days than midsummer in the regional climate record.
Layers and a light waterproof shell are more useful than a single heavy coat. Check trails locally after rain because soft ground and erosion can affect access.
Summer weather: June to August
June is warm; July and August have average highs close to 29°C and very little average rainfall. Exposed valleys can feel hotter than the official reading, while sunrise remains cooler.
Start walks early, carry water and sun protection, and avoid planning the longest outdoor section for the middle of the day.
Autumn weather: September to November
September remains warm, October is milder and November turns distinctly cold. The drop is significant: average highs move from 24.5°C in September to 11.8°C in November.
Autumn works well for mixed sightseeing, but packing for September is different from packing for November. Use the month-specific averages and the short-range forecast together.
